Bruce H. Broecker, M.D., F.A.C.S, F.A.A.P


Bruce H. Broecker, M.D., is board-certified by the American Board of Urology (ABU) as a urologist specializing in the practice of pediatric urology since July of 1980. He is also board-certified by the ABU in the recently established sub-certification for Pediatric Urology (2008). Dr. Broecker is on the medical staff of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (at Egleston and Scottish Rite) and Northside Hospital.

He is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Virginia. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his general surgery internship and residency at the Medical Center Hospital of the University of Vermont, his urology residency at the Medical College of Virginia and postgraduate fellowships in pediatric urology at the Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool, England, and the Children's Hospital of Michigan, Wayne State University.

He has served as chief of pediatric urology at both the Medical College of Virginia and Emory University School of Medicine. In 1990, he joined Dr John Woodard and Tom Parrott in Pediatric Urology, P.C., a private practice specializing in pediatric urology. In June 1997, Pediatric Urology, P.C. merged with Georgia Urology, P.A.

He is currently a clinical associate professor of surgery (urology) at Emory University School of Medicine and the chief of pediatric urology at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Dr. Broecker serves and has served on a variety of hospital and medical school committees at the Medical College of Virginia, Emory University School and Medicine, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. He has had more than 75 scientific articles and book chapters accepted for publication in peer-reviewed medical journals and has edited a textbook on pediatric genito-urinary tumors. He is currently on the editorial committee of Pediatric Blood and Cancer and is a reviewer for the Journal of Urology, the Journal of Pediatric Urology, Urology, Pediatrics and the New England Journal of Medicine. He has lectured throughout the world including the inaugural IPSO Keynote Lecture at the annual SIOP congress in 2007. He has been the Mary Weston visiting professor in pediatric surgery at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban South Africa and visiting consultant pediatric urologic surgeon at The Hospital for Sick Children and Institute of Urology in London, England. He is a member of and active in various medical organizations including the American Urologic Association (AUA), the Society of Pediatric Urology (SPU), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American College of Surgeons (ACS), the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) and the International Society of Pediatric Surgical Oncology (IPSO) (of which he is a past president), and the Children's Oncology Group (COG).
